Prof. Stephan Ferdinand

Stephan Ferdinand is a professor for journalism at the Stuttgart Media University (Hochschule der Medien, HdM). In 2001, the economist (Diplom-Volkswirt) and experienced journalist assumed his professorship in the “media management” study course within the “electronic media” department faculty.

Before being appointed to this position, Ferdinand worked for 14 years as a reporter, moderator and editor, primarily in public broadcasting radio and TV, in his last few years there in a leading position: He was managing editor of the SDR radio department for economics, social policy and traffic affairs. Subsequently, at SWR, he set up the new programme SWR4 Radio Stuttgart.

As director of the Institute for Moderation (imo), Ferdinand established the new qualification programme “Moderation” at HdM. At HdM, he also is the head of the Steinbeis transfer center “Audiovisual Media”, an interface between science and media practice. Twice, Ferdinand has received the “Ernst Schneider Prize for Journalism” of the German Chambers of Industry and Commerce.
